South Molton is small market town formed around a pretty central square on the southern side of Exmoor National Park. The Pannier Market takes place twice a week on Thursday and Saturday. The town has all amenities to serve its local population of around 5000 residents, including cafes, banks, shops, pubs, hotels and supermarkets such as Sainsburys. Beyond the centre are many countryside walks and a cycle network across to Exmoor. Dartmoor National Park is also nearby. Within easy driving distance are the beaches at Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands as well as the south-west coastal path. Kings Nympton railway station connects to mainline services at Exeter St. Davids, whilst the A361 link road leads to Exeter and the M5. The two local primary schools are rated as Good by Ofsted as is South Molton Community College. Barnstaple is some 12 miles north-west of the town and is the main town in North Devon, with all the major High Street retailers and The Green Lanes Shopping Centre. The town also has a theatre, is the home of Exmoor Zoo, Marwood Hill Gardens and Broomhill Sculpture Garden. Independent education is offered at St Michael’s School and West Buckland School as well as Shebbear College in Beaworthy.
