Stroud is a market town that lies in England’s largest ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ in the South Cotswolds, surrounded by five valleys, with a population of around 13,000 people. The town is some 10 miles south of the City of Gloucester. The town has numerous independent shops and cafes as well as major supermarkets in the area, including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, there is also a highly acclaimed farmers market held weekly in the town. Stroud has many amenities including a cinema, theatre, a thriving artistic community, a leisure centre with indoor pool and it is also on the Sustrans National Cycle Network. In addition there are rugby, football, cricket and athletic clubs in the town. The railway station runs frequent services to London Paddington and National Express travels to London Victoria. Local schools include Uplands Primary School rated as Outstanding by Ofsted and secondary education is offered at Stroud High School and Marling School, again both rated as Outstanding by Ofsted. Independent education is available at Wycliffe College and Hopelands Preparatory School.
