Summary
A detailed planning consent has been granted for 4 x 2 bedroom apartments in a Conservation Area in the centre of Chard. The apartments are approximately 672sq ft each and the building has been designed to resemble a mediaeval longhouse, to respect the history and tradition of the pattern of development along this street. The plans also allow for amenity area, bin and cycle storage.
The Site
The site is level and has a two storey brick structure with a tin roof spanning both walls on the site that will need to be removed to make way for the new development. The apartments will have a pedestrian access and vehicle access over a private driveway that also serves other residential and commercial properties. The site is very central within easy walking distance of Chard town centre, in a tucked-away position down an attractive street.

The Area
Chard is a market town on the edge of Somerset, close to the Devon and Dorset borders at the southernmost point of the County. The town has a population of some 14,000 people and it sits at an altitude of 121 metres, making it the highest town in Somerset. As well as many local shops the town has both Sainsburys and Tesco as well as national chains such as Boots. The 91 acres of land around Chard Reservoir provide a superb local nature reserve, enjoyed by anglers and twitchers alike. Holyrood Academy provides secondary education in the area, whilst the 11th century church of St. Mary the Virgin and the museum provide historical interest. The town has many sports clubs including rugby, hockey, football, tennis, cricket and bowls clubs, whilst also providing a golf club. The town is some 15 miles from Yeovil and Taunton, the latter providing excellent independent schooling at Taunton School and King’s and Queen’s Colleges.
